The Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission released this report on what happened in 2008. I've provided it for your benefit (all 3 of you). Whoah, apparently the post office is for profit, with a legally mandated monopoly on letters, yet it still can't compete with UPS or FedEx for speed or service...isn't government grand?
